The Gaia Project was founded in 2009 with a mission to empower youth to take action on climate change through education. With the help of continued support from the McCain Foundation, the Gaia Project has created student-led programs from grades 3-12 that are recognized by the New Brunswick Department of Education and linked to provincial curriculum objectives. An example of a supported program is Trash Tracker, a project where students sort through 1 day of garbage from their school and design a waste reduction plan based on what they found. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Gaia continued to work with teachers and students on projects virtually, providing hundreds of families with home-based environmental learning activities.
